Desktop environment not running smoothly

Hello everyone,

I recently installed Arch and have been struggling with desktop performance for the past two weeks. The problem is that animations sometimes stutter or run unevenly. This is noticeable when moving windows, and sometimes also when moving the mouse pointer. My primary screen (DP-1) runs at 165Hz (this is enabled), and the second screen (HDMI-1) runs at 60Hz.
I have tried a lot of things: different DEs, display managers, various graphics card drivers, and added several entries to various configuration files, such as "nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm" or GBM_BACKEND=nvidia-drm
__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia
ENABLE_VKBASALT=1
LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=nvidia
WLR_NO_HARDWARE_CURSORS=1.

My system:

NVIDIA Corporation GA104 [GeForce RTX 3070 Lite Hash Rate] (rev a1)
Motherboard: B550M AORUS ELITE
32GB RAM
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor
Currently, I am using SDDM, KWin, Plasma Wayland, and Nvidia driver: 565 nvidia-open
Bootloader: systemd
The desktop consistently shows around 165fps.

As it is currently configured, this is the smoothest experience I’ve had. It was perfect with the Nouveau driver before, but that’s obviously not a long-term solution, especially since I want to play games too. In htop, I can see that kwin_wayland is using over 50% CPU, but I don’t know why. In X11 or GNOME Wayland, the CPU usage is only 2%. However, the stuttering desktop occurs everywhere. Sometimes small images don’t load, for example, in the settings, or the preview images for the backgrounds were quite slow to load at first.

Additionally, the second screen (HDMI-1) seems to be running at only around 30fps with the current setup, while the first screen (DP-1) is at least smoother than it was with other DEs/DMs.

I also have the problem that when logging in, the screens stay black for about 6-7 seconds before I get to the desktop. This seems a bit strange to me. At least both screens are currently black for about the same amount of time, while before, the HDMI screen was always 5 seconds faster.

I haven't tried gaming or anything yet that needs more GPU power.

At this point, I really don’t know what else to try. Sorry for the chaotic information all at once, but I’d be happy to narrow it down further if needed. Maybe someone with a similar setup or who has an idea what could be causing this can help.

Thanks in advance!

??

Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

Also

added several entries to various configuration files, such as

undo that  for the moment.
And please use

tags. Edit your post in this regard to structure it a bit.

Re: Desktop environment not running smoothly

Please refrain from pointless full quotes, you're bloating the thread.

The Xorg log shows a single nvidia GPU w/ a single output - so far things are unsupicious.

You didn't comment on the apparent contradiction in your assertion?
The subject says "not running smoothly" but you're saying it's running at constant 165fps but then also that it "stutters".

Also

I have tried a lot of things: different DEs

Try openbox, no picom or other compositors and explain what stutters and whether that's the case there.
Also probably "xrandr -q" w/ the HDMI output attached, you might be running at 30Hz because of 4k w/ HDMI 1.4?
