New installation, issue with AMDGPU openGL driver

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to arch, has previous experience with Fedora
I just finished install on my HP Laptop w/ Ryzen 7 8845H w/Radeon 780M iGPU, kernel version 6.12
I installed the following related driver packages
amd-ucode 20241111.b5885ec5-1
base 3-2
base-devel 1-2
lib32-mesa 1:24.2.7-1
lib32-vulkan-radeon 1:24.2.7-1
linux 6.12.1.arch1-1
linux-firmware 20241111.b5885ec5-1
mesa 1:24.2.7-1
vulkan-radeon 1:24.2.7-1
xf86-video-amdgpu 23.0.0-2
xf86-video-fbdev 0.5.1-1

however, it seems that GPU acceleration isnt working properly
as eglinfo -B suggests

GBM platform:
_amdgpu_device_initialize: amdgpu_query_info(ACCEL_WORKING) failed (-13)
amdgpu: amdgpu_device_initialize failed.
EGL API version: 1.5
EGL vendor string: Mesa Project
EGL version string: 1.5
EGL client APIs: OpenGL OpenGL_ES
OpenGL core profile vendor: Mesa
OpenGL core profile renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 18.1.8, 256 bits)
OpenGL core profile version: 4.5 (Core Profile) Mesa 24.2.7-arch1.1
OpenGL core profile shading language version: 4.50
OpenGL compatibility profile vendor: Mesa
OpenGL compatibility profile renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 18.1.8, 256 bits)
OpenGL compatibility profile version: 4.5 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 24.2.7-arch1.1
OpenGL compatibility profile shading language version: 4.50
OpenGL ES profile vendor: Mesa
OpenGL ES profile renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 18.1.8, 256 bits)
OpenGL ES profile version: OpenGL ES 3.2 Mesa 24.2.7-arch1.1
OpenGL ES profile shading language version: OpenGL ES GLSL ES 3.20

its rendering off LLVMpipe,
the behavious includes that SDDM login, Konsole, and virtually all text input box suffer from severe display lags, where i typed in several letters only to wait 1or2 secs for them to appear on screen, but if I move my mouse slightly, the letters appears immediately.

Thanks anyone who would like to help in advance.

Re: New installation, issue with AMDGPU openGL driver

get rid of both xf86-video packages and reboot.

should the issue persist post your xorg log and the link you get from

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Re: New installation, issue with AMDGPU openGL driver

GBM is only relevant for wayland, for X you should use glxinfo -B instead.

Are you using X or wayland ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

I'm using wayland for KDE and SDDM

Re: New installation, issue with AMDGPU openGL driver

Nov 26 11:16:52 alice-lpt sddm-helper[649]: Detected locale "C" with character encoding "ANSI_X3.4-1968", which is not UTF-8.
                                            Qt depends on a UTF-8 locale, and has switched to "C.UTF-8" instead.
                                            If this causes problems, reconfigure your locale. See the locale(1) manual
                                            for more information.

Sddm has more issues then that , but you should correct that first.

Read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Locale and post the outputs of

$ locale
$ localedef --list-archive
$ localectl list-locales

Also post lspci -knn output .

Re: New installation, issue with AMDGPU openGL driver

if it works as root you probably messed with your user env , what output do you get from

printenv

from the normal user where it doesn't work correctly?

Re: New installation, issue with AMDGPU openGL driver

[     5.240] (==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Sat Nov 23 20:58:57 2024

The xorg log is dated.
Might be a permission issue.
If you're starting X11 w/ xinit/startx the log is in ~/.local/share/xorg and your xinitrc probably broken (last link below, 2nd note on what to include at least)

That being said:

WAYLAND_DISPLAY=wayland-0
XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland

You're running a wayland session, not X11 and w/

kwin_scene_opengl: 0x3: GL_INVALID_OPERATION in glDrawBuffers(unsupported buffer GL_BACK_LEFT)

I bet on the simplydumb device…
