In one month, or sooner or later, Gemini of Google or ChatGPT of OpenAI will be able to download and install Arch or any other Linux distribution on our computer at home remotely, as Google and OpenAI are implementing a new feature that will allow AI also to do what it previously only suggested to us. I think this will be a boost in Linux OS spread, what do you think? Anyway, how do you think AI could impact on Linux OS use, diffusion and maintenance, if there would be any?

Given the low quality of AI answers to archlinux issues, I expect lots of disappointed users that will never look at linux again.

I have some xp with automating installs and unknown hardware specs make that very hard.

Maybe the AIs just haven't been very well trained on these issues regarding archlinux(distros in general) and probably even Linux in general?

The trick would be to include seth's entire post history in the prompt and then ask the AI to simulate their responses from that input.

It would first and foremost result in everyone having thunderstruck being their startup sound and many hostnames referring to rodent porn.
Also a lot of swearing.

On topic: an AI cannot install archlinux as much as some youtuber or script could.
The point is to create the system yourself and understand it in the process.
If you're adverse to research, expermiments and constant learning or unwilling to accept setbacks - ie. fuck around and find out - arch is simply not for you.

And for the records: I sometimes say wrong things because I'm also still learning. Just the other day I could learn that gtk has some weird-ass hype-specific "cedilla" IM…

Still, talking so aggressively about skinning cats, about code being so ugly and all that whatnot, as important as it might be.

Might rally people who don't have context in the wrong direction.

For what it's worth, most open source projects have got to the level(or age) that they're not easily customizable anymore. Even playing around with a project takes time, effort and probably other resources too ;-)

It's only fair that there's a good reason to be doing it.
