I want to buy a laptop with Core Ultra 9 185H cpu, I've searched on the Internet, found posts saying performance is bad, gpu have artifacts, etc, but these posts are very old and seems they happen basically on Wayland.
Also it's unclear how Arch Linux should be configured for this cpu. For example I accidientially found that I have to manually enable HuC/GuC to have video decoding on gpu for older Intel i7-7500U processor, and seems for this one also I have to do it manually. Again accidientially I've found this: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en … essor.html
Also I don't know I have to use the xe driver or i915 for the integrated arc gpu.
And basically I don't have any idea does this processor work well on Arch Linux and how I must configure my setup. Some posts say everything works fine, some posts say everything is bad...
Please can you guide me to understand it's ok to buy this laptop at all, and if it's ok, how I have to configure Arch Linux on it.
I also asked here: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-AR … 703#M17884

The CPU was launched about a year ago, I'm pretty sure linux fully supports it by now. (If it didn't already do that 1 year ago, linux isn't that far behind for CPUs)

Are those issues still open? Also ,you will most certainly not hit its full performance as it's in a laptop with inadequate cooling, but that's a different story.

Since Intel provides and supports open source drivers, Intel graphics are essentially plug-and-play.
for HW acceleration support, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Hardwa … celeration, you want to set up va-api for pretty much every usecase.

Why I run Arch? To "BTW I run Arch" the guy one grade younger.
And to let my siblings and cousins laugh at Arsch Linux...

What webcam does the laptop use ?
If it's an IPU6 you will have issues with it.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?

This issue isn't solved yet: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=298456/
@Lone_Wolf webcam is "FHD 1080p + IR with Privacy Shutter, ToF Sensor"
The exact laptop model I want to buy is this: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/IdeaPad … 83D20024RK

To verify if the webcam is supported , we'd need a chipset id.
Although it doesn't look good for this laptop on any linux distro, Lenovo does support linux (ubuntu mainly) on many models.
Ask lenovo if you can get the laptop with linux pre-installed by them.
Do you intend to use only linux on the laptop or will it dual-boot with windows ?

I'll try to ask Lenovo.
I want to use only arch linux on it (with some systemd-nspawn arch linux containers).
