how to disable icons in taskbar?

is it possible to disable taskbar icons in gnome?
it's possible in kde, but there's no option in gnome taskbar settings.
i also looked into gnome conf editor, but i dind't find a line for taskbar icons.

Right click the item and select remove.

He wants to remove the application icons, so that just the appname and titlebar text remains... sorry, no idea.

I asked myself the exact same question yesterday. Would be nice if it is possible, but after doing some research I doubt it is.

You could always get the source for gnome-panel and patch it to remove the icons.... Hence the power of open-source software.

I was wondering the same, there might be a way to set it through your .gtkrc or a theme, just like you can remove the icons from menus with gtk-button-images, but I haven't been able to find anything (yet)! :-(
