Keyboard keeps de initing in xorg but not wayland

im using my root account to post this from arch linux kde plasma, my keyboard caps lock light goes off when xorg is started but it doesnt when i start kde plasma with wayland, i cant figure out why, ive reinstalled all of xorg, kde plasma everything, if it helps im using a MacbookPro9,2

Don't run GUI sessions as root. Afaiu at least KDE on X11 works fine as regular user.
1. Why is capslock active to begin with?
2. Does it not respond to the key?
3. Is the implication that capslock deactivates when logging into plasma/wayland as root ?
4. did you try to re-assign capslock, eg. to the compose key?

setxkbmap -print -query # a regular user, in doubt on X11

I'm starting plasma as root from a tty because the keyboard just deinits when any xorg session is started

So it's not about the LED or the caps lock feature, the keyboard completely doesn't work on X11 (but does on wayland)?
Please post the xorg log for a session of your regular user, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General - probably ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log

When I'm done reinstalling all the packages on my system to see how that fares

I've done a reinstall, we shall never know why it did that
