Unable to get gnome working

Hello Folks. I recently installed Arch on my desktop, and I'm trying to get gnome to work. I'm having some difficulties however, as I've never used a distro that didn't install/setup a desktop automatically.

I have XFree86 working properly, and can startx into twm, so I know (?) that's not the problem.

I followed the instructions here [/url]http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=3605and did

Pacman -Sy gnome

but coul …  any help?

hi, and welcome to ArchLinux.

export GDK_USE_XFT=1 (I don't understand this, but it was suggested somewhere)
exec gnome-session

/opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session: relocation error: /opt/gnome/lib/libgnomecanvas-2.so.0: undefined symbol: gdk_threads_lock

do a pacman -S gtk2 glib2
and you'll be fine [i believe] tongue

I don't use the export GDK_USE_XFT=1 btw

Re: Unable to get gnome working

you were unlucky and you got the last gtk2 update sad
the package maintainer knows of this problem, and will need time to fix it.
