The USB hub is definitely the answer. I'm now running Krita, Steam and my interface all together, was able to run an fsck and I'm now downloading games to the drive. My only concern is that the LED is blinking a LOT before I started downloading, even when nothing was happening, but I suspect that's kinda normal.

Once again, thanks for all the help. Will stop spamming this thread now.
