Null characters (^@) appear on console, and typing is impossible
Hi everyone,
I am running arch on an ASUS ROG G513 laptop, with AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX and NVIDIA 3050
When I boot the computer, the computer starts typing null characters (^@) during boot procces (kernel log) and in getty, this issue persists on most major linux distros mint and mint xfce4, parrot, fedora, arch and endeavourOS
I managed to install arch by enabling ssh with shell redirection, since I can’t use vim or nano (just on archlinux I can't use text editor).
I thought post installation everything should go fine since.
I installed base, linux, linux-firmware and amd-ucode packages, but now I can’t log in as a result of null character
notes:
hot keys (sound, brightness control keys etc.) work fine on fedora, but not on EndeavourOS version (25/06/2024).
Keyboard response time feel slow, and I can’t repeat key press by holding the key (e.g. hold backspace to delete several characters).
vim not working, it will switch from insert to normal mode.
nano will go to end of file by moving line by line.
Sometime in live arch iso systemctl log will interrupt and appear.
I think Fn key is what causing the problem.

Does blocking the input_polldev module help? Could be a regression to the behaviour observed here.

The kernel version of fedora is 6.8.5-301.fc40.x86_64
The previous installation was Parrot OS, and as I remember, the kernel version was 6.1 and the problem was persists.

You can either blacklist the hid_asus module (notably if this ha no other detremental outcome) or check which commit broke it.
Despite the Parrot OS memories, I'd just check the LTS kernel as easy way to narrow this down.
Wrt
hot keys (sound, brightness control keys etc.) work fine on fedora, but not on EndeavourOS version (25/06/2024).
the linked commit looks super suspicious.
