Hi all,
As of kernel 6.12.3, my Thinkpad E16 Gen 2 (AMD)'s microphone is no longer working. I'm using pipewire.
Here's inxi -A under 6.12.3:
Audio:
Device-1: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Rembrandt Radeon High Definition
Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
Device-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] ACP/ACP3X/ACP6x Audio Coprocessor
driver: snd_pci_acp6x
Device-3: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 17h/19h/1ah HD Audio
driver: snd_hda_intel
API: ALSA v: k6.12.3-arch1-1 status: kernel-api
Server-1: PipeWire v: 1.2.7 status: active
And here's wpctl status:

Possibly a few things worth noting:
- The 1ah at the end of the family line never used to be there, but it has been there for a little while and didn't stop the microphone working.
- wpctl set-default 58 does nothing that I can see.
- setting the DEFAULT_AUDIO_SOURCE volume +5% increases the volume of my speakers.
I'll reply with the output of the commands under 6.12.1. Please let me know if the info is insufficient or there's anything else that would be helpful. Thank you!

Just wondering if anyone else has my issue, or if it's something up with my config! If this isn't just a me problem, where is best to report this regression?

Is this still an issue with the latest kernel? Is your system fully upgraded with regard to the other packages?

Can confirm! tried 6.12.4 and no good. 6.12.1 is the last working one.

Hi. I have the same problem. I recently bought the same laptop. the system does not see the microphone.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 7 14ARP8, and the mic stopped working for me as well recently, I too assume with a kernel update. Also using pipewire.
Offline
I also have a thinkpad e16 g2 (AMD Variant) and the microphone doesn't work for me as well. It used to work perfectly fine. But after updating the kernel it doesnt work
I dont use Arch but I use Fedora 41 workstation on my laptop.
Kernel version: Linux fedora 6.12.4-200.fc41.x86_64

Is this also an issue with the latest version of the kernel?
sudo pacman -U https://pkgbuild.com/\~gromit/linux-bisection-kernels/linux-mainline-6.13rc3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
It would be nice if one of the affected could try it and report back!

I wanted to try the latest kernel, but didn't want to compile it. Thanks for the package!
https://alsa-project.org/db/?f=89536058 … e67affbe06
The issue is indeed resolved in the latest version
Offline
There are quite a few patches in the stable release queue, so when the next stable kernel comes out this might be already resolved: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … queue-6.12
If that is not the case (this should be sometime next week) we could debug this further

There now is also a new stable release candidate, does this also fix the issue?

Fixed for me now too! I'd be interested to learn about what actually happened there to cause that issue. Thanks for the help!

Great, this means with the next stable kernel (most likely released around Thu, 19 Dec 2024) this issue will be resolved.
