symptom: on wake up from sleep the screen is black and can see the mouse (a very common and generic issue)
replicating steps:
manually place the system in sleep, and on wake up the screen is black with only a mouse cursor. hibernation and reboot do not exhibit the same issue. I have been resolving the issue by opening a tty on ctrl+alt+F5 and typing 'sudo systemctl restart sddm' and recently found out that the esc key turns off and on the displays which seems to also fix the issue.
system:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900x
32 GB Ram
NVIDIA 2080
Arch, kde plasma 6 desktop, x11, grub bootloader
troubleshooting guides I've tried to follow:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … er_suspend
https://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/ … roundc73a7
using the nvidia_open drivers / nvidia_open_dkms which produce the same results. the Nvidia_resume service seems to report ...fine? so I dunno.
the OS itself seems stable under normal use and operation with both x11 and wayland and journalctl doesn't seem to be throwing a fit that I can see? I've done a lot of things, but not sure if I've done those things properly
I'm fairly new to the Linux OS as I'm looking for a way to detach from windows. I'm fairly familiar with computers, but have learned a lot have actually have learned to love the deeper control and understanding of computers I have gotten with tinkering with linux so far.
Please go easy on me. I have a vague understanding of the boot process and tools/utilities available with arch (or linux for that matter). I'm not afraid of looking and following guides and yolo-ing commands in the terminal, just I can't seem to find the right answer for my situation.

went to the bios to check some of the settings and realized it was out of date... 4 years old... it seems to be functioning properly now (as well as switching to wayland)
