Hello.
I have a weird situation.
On a desktop PC, with an ASUS B560-I WIFI motherboard (ITX), there is an S/PDIF optical output (and i'm using it all the time).
With an up-to-date archlinux system with GNOME SHELL, with kernel 6.6.10 : everything was working fine, and the S/PDIF output was perfectly detected and fully functional.
However, starting exactly with the first kernel 6.7.0, it stopped being detected (see below). In the meanwhile :
- I tried a lot of new kernels over the year, including (today) the 6.12.6 : still same issue every single time (so i also downgrade back to 6.6.10 after each upgrade to have some sound)
- I tried to reach the kernel / sound mailing list at the beginning of the year, but without any help on their side at this time (maybe i'm the only one impacted ...)
So with 6.6.10 (corresponding dmesg here : https://gist.github.com/SR-G/0e86d91771 … file1-txt) :
Linux moon 6.6.10-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri, 05 Jan 2024 16:20:41 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
This is what is detected :
% cat /proc/asound/pcm
00-00: ALC1220 Analog : ALC1220 Analog : playback 1 : capture 1
00-01: ALC1220 Digital : ALC1220 Digital : playback 1
00-02: ALC1220 Alt Analog : ALC1220 Alt Analog : capture 1
01-03: HDMI 0 : HDMI 0 : playback 1
01-07: HDMI 1 : HDMI 1 : playback 1
01-08: HDMI 2 : HDMI 2 : playback 1
01-09: HDMI 3 : HDMI 3 : playback 1
And so in GNOME SETTINGS i see the SPDIF output (and i can use it flawlessly) (last entry in the list) :
With 6.12.6 (corresponding dmesg here : https://gist.github.com/SR-G/0e86d91771 … -12-6-log) :
Linux moon 6.12.6-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu, 19 Dec 2024 21:29:01 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I only have :
% cat /proc/asound/pcm
00-03: HDMI 0 : HDMI 0 : playback 1
00-07: HDMI 1 : HDMI 1 : playback 1
00-08: HDMI 2 : HDMI 2 : playback 1
00-09: HDMI 3 : HDMI 3 : playback 1
(and of course with that kernl, in GNOME SETTINGS, i only see the 4 HDMI lines and not anymore the SPDIF output)
Note : i have a NVIDIA T600 card (with 4 HDMI monitors connected on it), hence the 4 HDMI entries.
The problem has clearly been appearing with the kernel 6.7.0, but i don't know at all how to correct it.
Any ideas ?
