Okay, so about a year or two ago, I installed Arch Linux and configured it myself, and learnt a lot from configuring a customised vanilla Arch Linux. Everything was running fine, that was until sometime this year.
Normally I'd be able to boot into my plasma-desktop shell just fine from SDDM. But this time, I wasn't able to, when I login from SDDM, it will show a black screen for a few seconds and then kicks me back into the SDDM login screen. And for months I've been trying to fix this issue myself.
After months of searching around on sites, reading multiple articles on the Arch Wiki relating to the issue that I have. I have tried the following:
* Uninstalling the NVIDIA drivers.
* Uninstalling and reinstalling kde-applications and plasma-desktop.
* Editing /boot/loader/entries/arch.conf to remove the NVIDIA kernel modes.
* Running startplasma-wayland.
* Backing up my home folder, and creating a new one, but it didn't make a difference.
* And maybe something else I've tried but can't remember what it was.
And I've also ran
sudo journalctl -b
to see what was wrong.
And this may be related to the problem:
But I know one thing that's definitely related, and it's these errors when I ran startplasma-wayland:
So it's telling me that it can't contact kdeinit5, now surely there's something preventing it, right? Also I'm very curious about this error:
kdeinit5_wrapper: Warning: connect(/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0) failed: : No such file or directory
That tells me that it's trying to look in that location, but can't find what it's looking for. But that's odd, wouldn't it actually create a new one if plasma-desktop is reinstalled?
Anyways, here's the full log of journalctl -b
