I installed my new pc with i3-wm, and when I installed gnome-clock no sound came out, I tried to find several ways to solve and none worked, if you have someone who can help me.

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

Is this limited to gnome-clocks? Can you produce sound w/ "mpv thunderstruck.mp3"?

Sanity check: sure you want to use gnome-clocks (which drags in gnome-desktop) on i3?

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

Hi, I use gnome-clocks, along with i3 since 2023, and the normal sound comes out, I like gnome-clock, I just don't like that I can't switch to the dark theme, more apart from that it works very well, with sound, more I changed my pc, and installed everything normal, less gnome-clocks that does not come out the alarm sound.

Who knows I change for another alternative, if I can not solve this problem, I need to use the alarm almost daily.

For clarification: this /is/ limited to gnome-clocks, mpv and your browser and everything else is generating sound as expected?

Have you tried to run gnome-clocks from an interactive shell to see whether it yells any errors itr?
Do you set a custom sound in gnome-clocks or rely on some system sound scheme (disclaimer: I've never used gnome-clocks)

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

There is no way to change the sound in gnome-clocks, what it sounds already and standard, there are alternatives, but I have to download in ways that I do not think safe

Everything is normal, except the application that does not sound.

The have only this error that it presents, the more I tried to change and I can not

(org.gnome.clocks:18756): GLib-GIO-WARNING **: .802: unable to send notifications through org.freedesktop.Notifications: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name is not activatable

You seem to lack some notification daemon like eg. dunst?

(org.gnome.clocks:18756): org.gnome.Clocks-WARNING **: .807: utils.vala:501: Invalid sound

That sounds *terribly* relevant to your issue…
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-cl … ge_size=20

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-cl … .vala#L501
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-cl … ata/sounds
But I guess those files are supposed to be compiled into the binary - sanity check, is this gnome-clocks from the repos or some flatschpak?

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

Hi, not being able to solve the gnome-clocks audio problem, plus you mentioned dunst,
with it I can put a sound in the gnome-clocks notification,
more the problem and that when I listen to spotify has the notification, that I can not take or make the exit,

I tried to put in the dunstrc settings

[Spotify]
	appname = spotify
	skip_display = yes

Even so it does not work, I tried to put the sound script, to sound only in normal mode and even so the sound keeps coming out along with the spotify notification that is in low mode

[espeak]
	summary = "*"
	urgency = normal
	script = "~.config/dunst/script/sound/sound.sh"

If you have ever had this problem, and you know how to solve it, it would help me a lot.

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

Please use [code][/code] tags, not "quote" tags. Edit your post in this regard.
And then post the actual dunst config, verbatim.

"~.config/dunst/script/sound/sound.sh" is probably wrong and should be  "~/.config/dunst/script/sound/sound.sh"

Why don't you just limit the sound to the gnome-clocks notification?

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

This is my setup, I just add the sound script at the end of the line

# See dunst(5) for all configuration options

[global]
    ### Display ###

    # Which monitor should the notifications be displayed on.
    monitor = 0

    # Display notification on focused monitor. Possible modes are:
    #   mouse: follow mouse pointer
    # keyboard: follow window with keyboard focus
    #   none: don't follow anything
    #
    # "keyboard" needs a window manager that exports the
    # _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW property.
    # This should be the case for almost all modern window managers.
    #
    # If this option is set to mouse or keyboard, the monitor option
    # will be ignored.
    follow = none

    ### Geometry ###

    # The width of the window, excluding the frame.
    # dynamic width from 0 to 300
    # width = (0, 300)

    # dynamic height from 0 to 300
    height = (0, 300)
    # constant height of 300
    # height = 300
    # NOTE: Dunst from version 1.11 and older don't support dynamic height
    # and the given value is treated as the maximum height

    # Position the notification in the top right corner
    origin = top-right

    # Offset from the origin
    # NOTE: Dunst from version 1.11 and older use this alternative notation
    # offset = 10x50

I do not know how to put the sound script for it to sound only for gnome-clocks, I tried that way more does not work

[Gnome-Clock]

	script = "/home/user/.config/dunst/script/sound/sound.sh"

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

I tried that way more does not work

dbus-monitor

then make gnome-clocks trigger a notification, it'll show up w/ its appname in the dbus-monitor output.
Same goes for spotify.

Let's say somebody else is looking for a solution to this, it'd probably nice if you'd list the proper appname (or dunst rule) for them wink

Re: [SOLVED]gnome-clocks no alarm sound

If the same problem happens you can activate the sound of gnome-clocks through the dunst notification, for this follow the steps.

First create a shell, choose the name the player, cvlc or mplayer or which one to prefer besides them,
choose the location where will lags the sound and shell I prefer to create a direct folder in the central folder dunst,~/.config / dunst
choose the sound you want to be played, copy it to the folder and include it at the end of the shell,
it stands as shown below

#!/bin/sh
mplayer  "/home/user/.config/dunst/sound/sound-clock.oga".
