Struggling to get NVIDIA hardware acceleration on Firefox

Hello all:

I got a new 1440p monitor in November, and ever since then my Arch install has felt very sluggish, especially in Firefox. It seems that I'm not getting hardware acceleration in Firefox anymore - I probably never was and didn't notice. Now I am because my i7-6700 CPU is struggling to do graphics at 1440p.

I have a GTX 1070. Hardware acceleration appears to work OK outside of Firefox.

I have installed nvidia, nvidia-utils, libva-nvidia-driver.

Despite the above Firefox about:support tells me I'm using WebRender (Software) and Hardware Decoding unsupported for all formats. I have

media.ffmpeg.vaapi.enabled = true, gfx.webrender.all = true

in about:config. Nothing I do seems to enable hardware decoding in about:support.

Would love to solve this issue because my work relies on a speedy Firefox, and it's been running like crap since I got this monitor.

Thanks!

Re: Struggling to get NVIDIA hardware acceleration on Firefox

1. libva-nvidia-driver doesn't work out-of-the-box, it requires manual intervention. Did you follow the instructions from here?

2. How exactly do you verify that HW acceleration is working or not? Because checking about:support in Firefox is not the way to do it.
