[AMD] brightness set to max (and cannot be changed) after suspend

Starting with kernel 6.12.5, if I suspend and then wake up my laptop (with an AMD GPU), brightness is set to max and cannot be changed.
I found a recently merged commit to be the culprit and sent a report to the stable kernel mailing list.

If you are also experiencing this issue, you have 4 options:

  • Wait for a new stable kernel version that includes a fix (it will probably be 6.12.8 and not 6.12.7, which is about to be released). This might take a few weeks or never happen.

  • Wait for the next kernel (6.13), where the issue is not present. Considering we are still on rc2, this might take a few months

  • Compile your own kernel on top of the stable/linux-6.12.y branch, but reverting commit 99a02eab first

  • Downgrade to kernel 6.12.4
