Hi
This is some strange problem. I just installed HAL today and regded it in rc.conf. When I try to acccess my DVD drive: It shows up as K#B data project and on clicking:
A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to this recipient, see message bus configuration file (rejected message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "Mount" error name "(unset)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal")
Image to make myself clear:

Heres my fstab
none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/dvd /mnt/dvd udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/fl vfat user,noauto 0 0
/dev/hda10 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda8 / ext3 defaults 0 1
/dev/hda7 /boot ext3 defaults 0 1
/dev/hda9 /home reiserfs defaults 0 0
I never did any other configuration for HAL.
Thanks

Make sure your user is part of the optical and storage groups.

After adding your user to optical and storage, you may want to experiment with your fstab by commenting out the cdrom and dvd entries with a #.
My system functions better without fstab entries for them, and the media automounts and unmounts whenever I access it through konqueror. Give it a try, if you get unexpected behavior, just uncomment them again.
