read forum but still x problem

In trying to get an xfce4 desktop running and investigating the issues on Arch forum;) I have unsuccessfully configured using the following:

    pacman -S xfree86

    pacman -S xfce4

    looks like above installed fine.

    In /home/bigd51/.xinitrc /root/.xinitrd,and /etc/skel/.xinitrc typed "exec startxfce4". The other wm's
I tried (Blackbox, icebox) were already in there but not xfce4 so I typed it in myself and remmed
    all others out.

    logged out
typed startxfce4 as bigd51 and root

    I get "fatal server error:
           no screens found"

Doesn't look like my Xserver is working, right?

I also set up XFree86Config.new, then cp it to etc/X11
'cause I thought that's where it belongs, but no dice.

Should this file have been renamed?

I can't seem to find any more answers searching forum, can anyone help
me correct what i'm doing wrong?

    Thanx in advance,
    NaperDave

No I didn't and will now. I've noticed it's the XF-4 file i'm working with. I guess i'm used to the RH8,9 distros but on the new learnig curve for desktop setup.  Got NFS working smile

Thank you.
