Can't switch to tty from graphical session

I just did a fresh install of arch on my laptop and I am having a strange issue. After I launch Hyprland from the tty, I can't switch to another tty using the function keys. It works perfectly fine before launching Hyprland. Manually entering the chvt commands works fine though. I have tried using sway too and the problem still persists. I think this might be a problem with the keyboard mappings?

CTRL+ALT+F*
should switch vts
check /etc/systemd/logind.conf
maybe you disabled it before.

Yes that is what I was using. I fixed the problem by installing KDE. One of the packages in that meta package must have fixed the problem.

If this is a laptop, the function keys may have been in their alternate function mode (Media keys, brightness, volume, etc...)  On this laptop there is an alternate function key to change the operation (marked Fn). The default can be toggled between the F* keys and the alternate function by pressing fn-esc.  You might have needed to press Ctrl Alt Fn F2.  It might also be that KDE forces the default to the F* mode at start up.
