[SOLVED] Xorg as user: a few hinderances

Hi,

I want to run X11 rootless. I'm using i3 and lightdm. From the wiki, I see that it's not possible to use lightdm for this.

So I tried sddm but after one of the last updates, I can't successfully login. After the first boot, sddm is shown but after logging in, I get a black screen and can't change TTYs. Only a hard reset works. After the subsequent reboot, not even sddm starts and only get a black screen with a cursor (non-blinking) in the corner. Again, I can't switch to another TTY and only a hard shutdown works. I have to switch the display manager in a live usb (back to lightdm or gdm).

I would be happy with gdm but it does not automatically unlock the gnome-keyring. After logging in, I have to enter my user password again to unlock. This is annoying.
Also, installing gdm brings the whole gnome desktop dependencies which I don't need.
I think that the autostart order is not correct. I use autorandr to align my screens. This works with lightdm but not with gdm.
Redshift-gtk crashes because I think it's running to early. q

What could I do to (1) have a working sddm (probably unlikely), or (2) automatically unlock the keyring, or (3) have my user running xorg with another solution?
Whatever logs or configs you need, I will be happy to provide.

For (2), the user service is enabled and it works with lightdm, so the configuration should work.
For (3), would like to have a graphical login screen.

This is in NC because it could just be a very simple config issue. (Which one, I don't know )
I tried Sway and Hyprland, so it might "just" be leftover service that I did not revert when reverting back to xorg from Wayland.

Install seahorse and use it to set the keyring password to a blank, empty string (ie, press <Return> twice when asked for the password). You can remove seahorse once the password is cleared.

have my user running xorg with another solution?

Thanks for your advice. I prefer the eye candy

However, I've solved it. Apparently sddm needs xf86-video-amdgpu installed. After installing this, sddm works reliably, runs as user, and my keyring is unlocked.

I'll mark this as solved, while the lack of a light login manager is still weird.
