How to set up a good Ebook/PDF text-to-speech reader?

First of all, I apologize if this is a stupid question. I'm currently in that f***ing around and finding out phase of Arch and Linux in general. I promise that if there's already the information I need on some forum somewhere about this, it has eluded me no thanks to my efforts to find it. I'm trying to find a way of having PDFs and Ebooks read to me via a TTS feature, ideally one that displays the book and highlights the text that is being read, because audiobooks are too finicky for me, miss one thing and you have to listen to the last two sentences again, but reading books myself takes my full attention. Looking around, I saw a lot of ways to do this... using software that doesn't work for me. What I'm asking for, essentially, is a tutorial on how to set up what seems to be a series of different software and put them together in a way that can accomplish what I want. Thank y'all in advance, I will give more details if requested.
