Is there a way to indicate if an application is no longer developed?

In AUR, we have 'Orphaned' to indicate that the package is no longer maintained. I'm just wondering if there are any smart addons out there that can filter on whether applications themselves in the AUR are still 'alive' or not.
Usually, I visit the Upstream URL in order to gauge whether there is still active development, as I tend to avoid anything that hasn't had active commits in years.

I was just curious if there is any streamlined way of accomplishing stuff like this. Maybe just a pipedream, but sure would be nice to have a way to figure out if I'm about to install an application that has essentially been abandoned upstream...

You'll have to ask upstream and if it's abandonware AND there're insurmountable problems ping the AUR maintainer or report the package for removal.
nb. that "no longer developed" doesn't mean much - if something's simple enough and doesn't have (major) dependencies on shifting resources it can simply be "finished" and there's really no reason to do anything about it. It just works the way it is since decades.
