Re: [SOLVED] Unable to start display manager

That's an X11 log from

[    60.888] (==) Log file: "/home/admin/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log", Time: Fri Jan 31 18:48:15 2025

1½ weeks ago. The server terminated cleanly after 8.2 days.

Since you're using the 535xx nvidia dkms module and that currently doesn't build against the 6.13 kernel (not sure about the 6.12 ones) I guess the issue is there around.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to start display manager

$ dkms status
binder/1: added
nvidia/535.216.01, 6.6.72-1-lts, x86_64: installed
v4l2loopback/0.13.2, 6.13.1-arch2-1, x86_64: installed
v4l2loopback/0.13.2, 6.6.72-1-lts, x86_64: installed

I have downgraded package "linux-lts" to "6.6.72-1-x86_64"

Is it safe to use the open source driver "Nouveau"?

I am not worried of performance, because I use this machine mostly as a server.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to start display manager

"Safe" as "your computer will not explode"?
Yes.
"Safe" as "no behvioral problems"?
No idea - there's a recent report about nouveaudrmfb no longer picking up an (older) GPU resulting in no output.

You can try - the alternative would be the 570xx driver which seems to have fixed at least some bugs that have plagued nvidia since 545xx…

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to start display manager

First of all, I beg your pardon for creating another account, again.

I have a backup which is offline, and I am not able to reach to it.

UNABLE TO START

I have kept using the older kernel 6.6.72, and after the update of yesterday, I am no longer able to connect to the display.

journalctl -b

https://0x0.st/8J20.txt

/var/log/Xorg.0.log

https://0x0.st/8JLK.0.log

535XX

I have updated the kernel 6.12.27 and also driver 535xx, and I was unable to start.

I maintain the older package 535xx which was built against kernel 6.6.72 which used to work.

570XX

I did not find driver 570xx in the repository.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages?K=nvidia-5

I suppose, that you refer to package nvidia-lts.

nvidia-lts 1:570.144-5

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/nvidia-lts/

Please advise.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to start display manager

Installing nvidia-lts has solved this problem.
