[Solved] Plasma6 wrong association filetype

Hi there,

Sorry I'm getting rusty, I still digging with plasma6 and I found a strange behavior while trying to open a directory. The mime type leads to Kate rather than any file browser.

Even it's the time to a file selection it doesn't provide the correct uri to the calling program.

Re: [Solved] Plasma6 wrong association filetype

go into system settings and adjust the mime mapping for inode/directory, or generally see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Default_applications deepnding on how exactly you're starting plasma could also be some relation in: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_MI … enu_in_KDE

Generally speaking if you never explicitly configured this the order and association can very much be random and depends on what you installed when and where. Only once you have explicit config in your user home are you more or less guaranteed that a system wide mime type cache update doesn't switch the default

Re: [Solved] Plasma6 wrong association filetype

I went to see the association in the plasma setting and the desktop and urllink are associated to the first available, which is kate. Also kioclient if called to present a directory will call kate.

Whenever I trying to add the appropriate program,  I don't have the idea what should be such program in the plasma 6 environment. I'll try with a new user and understand whether I messed up in my home or it's a system defect.
So to handle such call it should be like a file picker or a file browser.

For an instance

kdialog --getopenfilename

works and it shows the plasma file picker.
I still investigating.

Re: [Solved] Plasma6 wrong association filetype

Hi there,
I corrected partially the problem, I use Settings > File Associations > Directory and I removed Kate from the top of the list, so this is when need to browse directories.

Most of the other cases when a program calls to open a file it will open the file chooser, but for a couple of Wine program it won't happen. Last I added Dolphin rather using Krusader, but the fact is that the plasma installation group doesn't include any file browsing and Kate installation puts its mime types even those files that are unreadable.
