[SOLVED] Questions and difference about nvidia drivers

Hi

I'm  considering to use a nvidia card in a dual stack gpu. But I'm not sure if the proprietary drivers in the arch repos came cleaned like when you are using nvclean in windows.  I know that nvidia drivers in windows came bloated and with telemetry, I want to know if the arch proprietary nvidia drivers came debloated and without telemetry. Also I want to know if for the gtx 1000 generation it's a good idea to use  nouveau drivers for max performance or if it's recommended the proprietary driver for that case. I need to use cuda btw.

Re: [SOLVED] Questions and difference about nvidia drivers

Pretty sure none of the telemetry that's worth "cleaning" was ever part of the linux driver. If you need to use CUDA you're not going to get around nvidia in any case. And basically no, nouveau wil almost always be worse from a performance perspective. It saw some recent resurgence with the advent of being able to use GSP firmware, but a Pascal GPU predates that so there's not going to be any use from that.

Re: [SOLVED] Questions and difference about nvidia drivers

Thanks V1del for let me know that the drivers are debloated. This is the default of Nvidia drivers or the debloat step is made by the arch community ?

It's default, stuff like geforce experience that some would take issue with have never been shipped with the linux driver.

Re: [SOLVED] Questions and difference about nvidia drivers

Thanks! So  I just want to be able to check nevertheless if the driver have some background request to another address. Is there some way to do that apart of using ss to check connections ? I'm thinking to use strace maybe, but not sure if strace could send that information in a "human readable format". Just for curiosity and propose. smile

Re: [SOLVED] Questions and difference about nvidia drivers

Btw does the same applies to cuda package ? If I'm not wrong cuda doesn't have user tracking and telemetry, but just in case I'm just asking to check if that's the case.

Nevertheless many thanks for you help smile
