Hi, so i am new at arch and i've been having this problem in the past couple of weeks regarding my wifi disconnecting and the ath10k_pci crashing at random times. Sometimes it won't connect at all.
I am using an Asus Vivobook X407MA
this is the log that i've been getting thru journalctl | grep ath10k_pci

i tried other workarounds like setting a udev rule to turn off global power management:
iw dev wlo1 set power_save off
sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/81-wifi-powersave.rules
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="net", KERNEL=="wl*", RUN+="/usr/bin/iw dev $name set power_save off"
I can't seem to get around this problem, so any help is appreciated

Please use

tags. Edit your post in this regard.
Or rather remove all of that and upload the unfiltered journal.
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
Offline
hi sorry if i didn't correctly format the post, the post is now edited. Lets get back to troubleshooting ?

Or rather remove all of that and upload the unfiltered journal.
This will add context to the intances where the NIC times out.
Offline
here is the unfiltered journal: https://0x0.st/8Am8.txt

This dosn't cover any disconnects?
You can access older journals using eg. "-b -3" (3 boots ago)

here's the journal from 5 boots ago: https://0x0.st/8AmA.txt

Try to disable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … domization
Offline
so, i added the line
[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no
to
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
is that correct? if so, i'll wait for any changes in my network connection if the issue still persists.

unfortunately, after disabling mac address randomization in the network manager config, the issue with my wifi disconnection still persists

Try setting the cryptmode parameter for the ath10k_core module to 1.
Jin, Jîyan, Azadî
Offline
so, i tried setting the cryptmode parameter for ath10k, thru modprobe.d
i go to
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/ath10k.conf
i add the line
options ath10k cryptmode=1
so i ran:
sudo modprobe -r ath10k
sudo modprobe ath10k
and it gave me an error:
modprobe: FATAL: Module ath10k not found.
Offline
I said ath10k_core, not "ath10k".

I set the cryptmode parameter of ath10k_core to 1. I will wait to see if any network connectivity issues persist.
Offline
when i set the cryptmode param to 1 my network is literally disconnected.

Add "pci_aspm=off" to the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters
Sanity check, though it didn't look like, but is there a parallel windows installation?
Offline
No, there's no parallel windows installation. I fresh installed arch. anyway, I turned off PCI aspm
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-linux-lts root=/dev/mapper/volgroup0-lv_root rw pci_aspm=off loglevel=3 cryptdevice=/dev/sdb3:volgroup 0 quiet
Network disconnection still persists
Offline
Sorry, typo - "pcie_aspm=off"
Offline
i turned off pcie_aspm but, unfortunately the network disconnection is still not being solved. Do you think this could be a deeper issue other than my network disconnecting? if so, do you have any idea what could it be?

The chip doesn't wake up and causes a timeout and also cannot be reset.
Apparently it's not the wifi power saving, nor ASPM nor the MAC changes nor dual use (hibernating windows) - so we're kinda out of usual suspects.
It would seem that
Feb 24 18:39:50 archlinux wpa_supplicant[558]: wlo1: CTRL-EVENT-SIGNAL-CHANGE above=1 signal=-39 noise=-114 txrate=0
Feb 24 18:46:39 archlinux wpa_supplicant[558]: wlo1: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-FAILED ret=-110
the reason for the wakeup is a scan attempt, but that might just be a random match.
You can try to replace wpa_supplicant w/ iwd resp. connect w/ iwd manually to avoid NMs scanning habits to see whether those are indeed factors/triggers.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … Fi_backend
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Iwd#Co … _a_network
Make sure to disable/stop NM before trying to connect w/ iwd manually.
Offline
I replaced my wpa_supplicant w/ iwd and disabled NM. I'll observe any changes and check if the issue from my network disconnecting still persists.
Offline
unfortunately, the network is still disconnecting but this time its a bit different. Whenever i boot i can stay connected for about 10 - 15 mins and after that i would suddenly lose connection.
check out this journalctl log: https://0x0.st/8Afw.txt

this journalctl log from 2 boots ago : http://0x0.st/8AfE.txt i go to
iwd device list
and the network adapter is literally gone idk what caused it

The chip still fails to wake up, the error message was added with https://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/a … 05180.html
According to (the old!) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1882968 pcie_port_pm=off won't help either, nor can this fully be a firmware issue (the bug spans > 2 years)
Can you prevent this by throwing the device a life-line and keep "ping google.com" running in the background?
