Seems lately on forums Arch is taking a battering. Version names ... packages kernels etc.. ...
Arch does not need version, numbers, dates, names...
No Arch is not about that its about the community, yes the people who use ,maintain, develop it
Look at the logo at top left of screen read what it says ........I want it to stay that way

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.

"Arch does not need version, numbers, dates, names... "
Why does it have them then? If their so pointless why do they exist? If they are so irrelevant why not change them? Why insist on sticking to something that breeds misunderstanding and apparently unwanted discussion?
The fact is: Arch frequently takes a bashing in these areas for a good reason. It's arguable that having a version numbering system that makes no sense is anti the Arch philosophy anyway.
Resistance to change is a short cut to extinction - it's a fact of life. It seems that many don't want Arch to change for entirely selfish reasons - isn't that the antithesis of open source?
Btw, it certainly was pointless to post your thoughts outside off-topic. Your choice of topic title wasn't much cop either.

Lately we've been seeing a number of threads that have very ambiguous titles and force you to click on them if you actually want to know what they are about. It's very annoying. How difficult is it to spend a few seconds to think of a 3-5 word summary of the thread as the title is intended to be?

Hmmm, well I guess as long as you realise you started this particular "petty argument".
However, I utterly disagree with you. If the current naming scheme is not useful, confuses people and is the source of "petty arguments", then fixing that IS constructive.
A versioning system that appears to go from 0.1 to 1.0 does not correspond to a rolling release - it's misleading.
Just because an issue is not life threatening doesn't make it petty or pointless.
Personally I ignore the version numbers because I know it's irrelevant - who else knows that till they ask? And ask they do. Regularly.
"If people searched the forums they would understand!" I hear you cry.
Maybe 99 out of 100 do and get the answer but that one person still has to be told every time. Now, that's dumb and unconstructive.

As I say remove the thread ...
