Hey,
I'm trying to bind "F2" to a keybind $mod+m, which then executes "F2". I've done a cursory search on google with no real results found... & looked through the guide: i3 - 4.4. Keyboard bindings to see if I can achieve this result.
Tried a few iterations of bindsym & bindcode (113) to see if this can be done, however, with no success. I'm pretty sure this is achievable, & it's probably very easy, the solution is just eluding me. Reason I'd like to do this is so I can change file/folder names in rapid succession & on the fly...
I don't want to have to press "Fn+FnLock" too then press "F2", too then press "Fn+FnLock" too then revert back to volume & brightness key bindings... It's a pain in the ass... I'd also like to keep "F2" as the default shortcut key, because this is standardized throughout most manufactures & operating systems.
Or is there a better methodology I could use? ![]()
Could someone point me in the right direction, or advise how I can configure this please.
Thanks!
Rich

UPDATE: I've still been researching this here & there, and the only solution I've come across which somewhat solves the problem is "Alt+e" then "r" (Thunar), which definitely makes things a lot easier! However, I still think $mod+m (or whatever letter you choose) would be better ![]()
I've also tried xdotool & this was unsuccessful, it's not focusing on the foreground window or highlighted/primary window, it's literally just pressing the key F2... hmm
This also occurred to me as well, is there an app, that can be used to open File/Folder menu on the specific file or folder you've highlighted? Similar to a right click if that makes sense... The reason I say this is due to one of my older ThinkPads, W500 specifically, had a designated key to do this exact task; image below, it's between Alt & Crtl on the right hand side & PrtSc is next to the power button at the top... Why on earth did they simplify these keyboards is beyond me... that was definitely a devolution in keyboard design...

I'm going to consider this thread resolved.
