Sorry about that I forgot to update the thread. I think this issue in the first bisection was just unrelated and I got confused while bisecting.
I started again and landed on a commit that seems more related.
I started a thread in the regression mail list and we'll see where it goes from there.

Unfortunately it does seem like it does just by reading it.

- The regression has been present for a while
- I do not experience random USB disconnects

I will give a try to the proposed patch to see if that has any effects.
