Intel Arc A770 HDMI Limited to 60Hz on KDE, 100Hz Works on Motherboard

I use kde as the desktop environment... when i connect my hdmi to the motherboard, i was able to get 100hz refresh rate on settings, but when the hdmi cable connected directly to my intel arc a770 gpu, the only option for refresh rate is 60hz and 50hz... I have done a lot of researching still a lot of solution is to use x11 instead of wayland... when doing a gpu benchmarking using Unigine Superposition it detects my dgpu but still has a limited fps when the hdmi directly to the dgpu which is 60fps

Re: Intel Arc A770 HDMI Limited to 60Hz on KDE, 100Hz Works on Motherboard

this forum subject might be misleading, kde settings still detects my monitor on both hdmi port, but the refresh rate on it cannot be change to 100hz when connected to the dgpu

Edit the first post to change the title . (There is a character limit so you probably will have to shorten the title) .

Please post the output of lspci -k using code tags .

Also run as root / with root-rights

# journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

That command will upload your system journal to a public hosting site and output a link.
post that link.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: Intel Arc A770 HDMI Limited to 60Hz on KDE, 100Hz Works on Motherboard

Does the behavior change w/ https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … _Xe_driver ?
Also, since this is a hybrid system, do you run the session on the UHD770 or the Arc chip? Or do you also switch this around when flipping the connection?
("qdbus6 org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation" will know…)

Also test the behavior on X11 and post the edids

for OUT in /sys/class/drm/card*; do echo $OUT; edid-decode $OUT/edid; echo "================="; done

You'll need https://github.com/timvideos/edid-decode/ (not yet in v4l-utils and the AUR package is unfortunately gone) respectively just post your Xorg log for either setup, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General (the edid will be logged there)

Re: Intel Arc A770 HDMI Limited to 60Hz on KDE, 100Hz Works on Motherboard

No, the behavior did not change on Xe_driver.

I think it ran on UHD770 session because the Arc chip came in a little bit later after my system is built.

Re: Intel Arc A770 HDMI Limited to 60Hz on KDE, 100Hz Works on Motherboard

I think it ran on UHD770 session

Nope.

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa Intel(R) Arc(tm) A770 Graphics (DG2)

Which card did you switch to the xe driver? The HD770, the Arc or both?
In doubt post the journal for that - the EDID you posted certainly advertises the 100Hz mode (and I assume that's drawn when the monitor was attached to the Arc GPU?)

Re: Intel Arc A770 HDMI Limited to 60Hz on KDE, 100Hz Works on Motherboard

───────┬─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
       │ File: /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf
───────┼─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
   1 │ options i915 enable_dpcd_backlight=1
   2 │ i915.force_probe=!56a0 xe.force_probe=56a0
   3 │ i915.force_probe=!a780 xe.force_probe=a780

so supposedly it ran on both GPU?

The previous edid I ran it is on X11 session and the HDMI cable connected to the Arc.
but still the KDE settings on monitor still limited to only 50hz and 60hz

this is the edid that I ran on wayland session while connected to the motherboard:

Re: Intel Arc A770 HDMI Limited to 60Hz on KDE, 100Hz Works on Motherboard

The EDID will not differ w/ the display server.

The used syntax is wrong for a modprobe config but would be correct for the kernel commandline.
That file did not result in using the xe module - also check the journal for what actually gets used,
(if you've the i915 module in the initramfs and want to you a modprobe.conf.d file w correct syntax, make sure to regenerate the initramfs to include the config update)
