Headset not working anymore, and continuous error message in dmesg

Hi Folks,

Recently, I tried plugging my headphones into my XPS16 laptop and realized that they were no longer working. I don’t use my headphones very often, so I can’t say exactly when they stopped working, but I can confirm that they were functional a few months ago. I restarted my laptop, hoping this would resolve the issue, but without success.

When I plug in my headphones, they are not detected at all (there should be a switch that notifies the system when something is plugged into the jack connector).

Additionally, I continuously see the following messages in dmesg:

[81089.866243] cs42l43 sdw:0:0:01fa:4243:01: Reached MAX_RETRY on alert read
[81089.959683] cs42l43 sdw:0:0:01fa:4243:01: Reached MAX_RETRY on alert read

These two messages (actually the same one, but displayed twice at intervals of a few milliseconds) are repeated every four seconds. I believe this is related, as cs42l43 is a headphone/microphone driver from Cirrus.

Has anyone encountered this kind of issue, or can anyone help?

Best,
