I know usually it is not necessary defrag a ext3 drive since the filesystem smartly collocate files. But today after turning on the computer the regular disk check wrote 41,5% of non continuous files.
It is really too much. So I was wondering how can I force a defrag.
Thanks a lot.

Look at defrag and shake in AUR.

there is this ext2 defrag tool but is not really recomended. from what i know, ext3 should take care of fragmentation on its own. a little experiment would be to move files back and forth.

Yeah, that's what i do when i want to "defrag" a partition for some reason. I think it's much faster and safer than using an app for that (if there exist one). However, i never noticed any change: it doesn't feel faster (even with placebo effect) nor doesn't get more stable... BUT it shows 0% non-contiguous files when fsck-ing it, and that makes me feel happy
