need a program

Hello.I need a program to make mp3z to mp4z.. but i can't find a good program.On windows the encoding with nero is perfect and mp4 get smaller size but on linux with these programs which i tried the mp4 was even bigger not smaller .. ?Any ideas?

what about;

ffmpeg -i [input_file].mp3 -ab [bit_rate] [output_file].mp4

Don't do it! Unless you have some hardware that will only play mp4 files you're just going to be destroying your audio quality needlessly. Going from a lossy format like mp3 throws out some information (which is a horrible thing in the first place). Going to another one throws out even more. It's like photocopying a photocopy.

What he said, don't do this. It'll completely damage your music, with no purpose or reason.

You should whenever possible encode from the original track or one in an uncompressed format like flac.
As you are going to use the mp4s to listen to music on your mobile I assume quality doesn't matter that much. If this is the case just go ahead with norikos tip...
