Hello hello!
Typing from Italy here. I joined the forum just to say thanks to someone who posted a solution that solved my problem.
I'm not on Arch (not yet at least ), I'm aware the forum is only and specifically for Arch users, that's why I always search or ask for support on my distro's forum (Manjaro in my case).

I hope you don't mind a "thanks" from the outside!

Of course we welcome "thanks" from the outside.   As to being only for Arch users, that is not entirely true.  We welcome everyone to read and even to participate.  All we ask is that requests for support be for Arch Linux only.  We do this because we don't know how other distributions configure things, and because we do not want to have anything that is not applicable to Arch Linux to avoid confusion.

Hello everyone!! I just switched from Ubuntu and am having a blast. Install was not as bad as reddit made it out to be (only took 20-30 minutes) and have had few issues. Just wanted to say hi!!!

Hello everyone,

I'm coming from Ubuntu and KDE. I wanted something new and it was hyprland. It was also the perfect time to also switch to Arch Linux. I have been using it for around an year or so now. I really enjoy the cutting edge packages; it feels like a breeze after using distros like Ubuntu. Most of the issues faced are one timers only, because after that, you know how to deal with it. You also learn new things when you deal with problems on your own. Maybe that's why people use Arch.

Hello, I am a person from India who learned about arch linux for being minimalistic and because of a low end system, I jumped from debian to arch linux and have been happy eversince! I primarily changed distros because I like updating as it is so satisfying. And debian still felt like a little bit easier.

Hi I'm from italy and I've been using arch for a while. I still have manjaro on my main pc but one day I'll switch to arch on it too. On my laptop, I have a 24gb ssd, 4gb ram setup with i3wm and I use the laptop mainly for taking notes at uni (I study maths and AI). After years on arch based distros first then actual arch, I thought it was time to finally say hi to the community

Hi all, I'm from Belgium (est. 1982), work as a freelance developer, always been a fan of foss and linux but never really went balls deep in it. I have some experience in Debian & Manjaro but because of my main tech stack I work a lot in MS Windows too (.net). Trying to completely move away from MS. I am a sysadmin grown into a developer so I know a thing or 2 about hardware and software.
Arch seems like a challenge so I thought it was a good idea to register and have you guys available to get my Lenovo Legion Pro 7 up & running with arch... Currently struggling with my perfect partitioning setup with some butterfs.

Just finished my first Arch installation! I’ve always loved the Linux philosophy, but as an average user, I used to dread that cryptic black screen full of strange commands ^^. Recently, I started facing some fears—like squashing cockroaches—so I thought, "Why not tackle this one too?" And here we are!

Hi everybody!

I'm very new to Arch, as a unix engineer working with a lot of RHEL and solaris.

Came from a childhood of Mac + some labbing under ubuntu; but got pulled by the siren call of windows gaming (and entry-IT practice) for some time.

Just finished a manual install and set my vanilla snapshot, looking forward to experimenting and breaking so so many things.

Hi everyone.

As most on this thread initially, I am very new to Arch, and actually very new to Linux overall.

For whatever reason, I seemed to have lived under a rock when it came to Linux. Especially with regards to desktop environments, as it was not at all what I expected.

The last time I tried a distro was probably early 2000's, and at that point I just preferred XP, and never looked back.

Got fed up with Windows 11, so I tried Fedora KDE on my main rig beginning of February and was blown away. Did not take much convincing to say goodbye to Windows 11 and kind of got a little obsessed trying to take in and catch up on what I ignored for so long.

While I really liked Fedora, I was not so much a fan of all the bloat that came with the KDE spin (although I know now I could have used the everything installer to choose what I wanted), but that made me look at Arch as I really liked the idea of building my own system.

It took me many tries to get to a point where I am happy with my rig, but I think I am mostly there. Apart from plymouth (which is still beyond me at this point), everything seems to be working really well.

The part of the installation that I probably struggled with the most was getting the boot loader working properly. Using BTRFS and subvolumes was kind of new to me and it involved quite a bit of troubleshooting and getting countless messages that arch is bailing out, and I am on my own

But the wiki is awesome resource and I learned a lot in the process.

Just want to say I am happy and excited to be here.

I'm excited to be part of this community of Arch Linux enthusiasts! My Linux journey started way back in 2003 with Red Hat 9. Over the years, I explored several distributions, including Slackware, Debian, and eventually Linux Mint, which I have been using as my daily driver for quite some time.

Now, I've decided to take the plunge and move to Arch Linux. What I find most appealing about Arch is the level of control it offers over installable components and its ease of configuration. It’s incredibly satisfying to tailor the system to meet my exact needs.

I'm looking forward to learning from this knowledgeable community and contributing wherever I can. Let's embrace the Arch way together!

A son of a god and of passed knowledge with the original attested version being an epithet for a great goddess of a pantheon. My name is the latin version of said form.
You may talk to me about various things, I enjoy coding <py3, sh, c++, rust and x86_64 assembly> keep in mind that I have not studied these formally and some of these languages are in their earlier phases of being learnt.
My broad interactions with computational devices goes as follow:
1. At two years of age, I played many a Ps2 game (some include Ratchet and Clank, Need for speed underground, etc..) I also played a PC game called 101 games made in 1997.
2. At fourteen years of age, I had owned and played Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii sports edition, Ps4 and has the owner of a blue dell laptop I do not recall its information, yet i took it apart to replace Ram and Storage and took the HDD apart multiple times.
3. At sixteen years of age, I had begun learning scratch and was ruining Windows 10 and my first instance of Linux alongside it. Linux mint.
4. At nineteen years of age, I built my first PC, the case and cpu have been upgraded since then.
5. At twenty two years of age, I installed Debian and later POP!OS.
6. At twenty three years of age, I installed Arch Linux.
Why Arch Linux? I heard that it was minimalist and did not like file manager on POP!OS, when i tried to remove it their was dependency issues hence i opted to change to Arch Linux. NOOB. Yes, with further research i found that i could switch to a TTY or kill the processes and remove the file manager.Why do i still use Arch despite hating my self and using system management as a way to punish myself? I like pacman and it makes customizing easier, also aur is cool.
I hope I can make applications you will use.

Welcome.

Timezones are geographically based , like Europe/Amsterdam .
Also things work best if you don't set timezone in plasma, but systemwide

Hello, I’m YrnCollo. I’ve been on Arch for over 3 years now and my next goal is to become a maintainer, whether for an AUR package or, even better, the pacman package manager. While I’ve read through the wiki on how to become a maintainer, I think it would be great to have some guidance from a more experienced maintainer as I prepare for this journey.

Hey yall. I'm still pretty new to Arch but I'm learning a LOT (mostly from the ArchWiki lol). I've been observing its behaviors from afar for a few months in a VM, and Ive found that it's actually so simple yet ridiculously powerful. I absolutely love how it takes a DIY approach to operating systems and lets you configure it according to your needs.

I'll be migrating to Arch Linux after Microsoft takes Windows 10 out back and kills it. I was going to choose an "easier" distro (like linux Mint or smth), but I saw the simplicity and DIY aspect of Arch Linux... and I fell in love.

Future me will never be able to get back all the time i'll probably spend configuring Arch, breaking something, figuring out how to fix it, breaking something else, somehow managing to rm -rf /* myself and having to start all over, refusing to learn from my mistakes and doing it all over again, ultimately giving up and leaving for a distro with a R/O system, then finding that too boring, potentially going insane and returning to Arch Linux, and staying this time because I finally got it set up properly and I'm sick of reconfiguring my OS for the trillionth time. Will I have regrets? Maybe. I don't know. Only time will tell...

In the meantime, I leave you with this:

I'm here, because Microsoft is destroying the last Windows version with any kind of redeeming quality (Windows 10).

Also because of Windows package management, or rather the lack thereof. (Seriously, why are there NO standards whatsoever on Windows?)
