[Solved] After updating Arch Linux Black screen for the user session

Bonjour,

After updating Arch Linux with KDE-plasma, when I restarted, the screen was black. No access to terminal any more.

I found some ideas on the web and tried them out with no results.

- Suppress  all under ~/.local/share/kactivitymanagerd/resources
- Suppress a lot of files and folders under .cache and .config

Do you have any idea?

Regards,

Leloup

Re: [Solved] After updating Arch Linux Black screen for the user session

Ctl+Alt+F12 then Ctrl+Alt+F6 give access to tty

/etc/sddm.conf I specified a few fields like session and login
but that didn't correct anything.

Then into console, I tried startplasma-wayland but the process goes on endlessly without sending anything back. So I tried to reinstall plasma-wayland-session but couldn't find the target.
I installed again linux but this is the same

sddm is reinstalled, enabled and started but after login and password, black screen...

Please use [code][/code] tags. Edit your post in this regard.

mars 29 19:09:17 leloupArch plasma-fallback-session-restore[1169]: libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen

By sorting ctl log messages by time and fail:

Don't - you're falling back to some vulkan zink and probably software rendering, there's something wrong w/ the entire graphics stack
Please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

The point of the 0x0.st links is to have something to look at without you needing to bloat up the thread copying the same exact information duplicated in the wrong way you were already asked to do properly before, to save everyone's bandwith and eyes I removed the dupe. If you ever want to include output in your post, as already mentioned code tags are better suited.

Re: [Solved] After updating Arch Linux Black screen for the user session

Thanks V1del

Seth,
With VirtualBox, the “vmwgfx” error is a recurring error. It in no way prevents the VM from running.

'VMware: No 3D enabled (0, Succès)'I  didn't activate it to avoid trouble - in fact, if I do activate it, it works.

Before installing the full upgrades, I modified

/etc/pacman.conf

as follows:

IgnorePkg=xdg-desktop-portal-kde

But after the full upgrade, the black screen appears after login

Although until now I didn't think it was necessary, I updated/installed nvidia.

sudo pacman -Sy nvidia nvidia-utils

A dependency cycle has been detected.
The eglexternalplatform package has been installed before nvidia-utils
which could explain the problems. After reboot, no more black screen.
The “pacman.conf” file has been restored to its original state and it still works.
It seems that after each so-called complete update, you have to update nvidia.
I don't remember but maybe you need to restart mkinitcpio.

Re: [Solved] After updating Arch Linux Black screen for the user session

Although until now I didn't think it was necessary, I updated/installed nvidia.

There's no nvidia device in your journal? Also nvidia and nvidia-utils are in the repos and would get automatic updates.
Please post an upodted system journal:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

After reboot, no more black screen.

'VMware: No 3D enabled (0, Succès)'I  didn't activate it to avoid trouble - in fact, if I do activate it, it works.

So do you get a black screen when disabling the 3D acceleration?

Re: [Solved] After updating Arch Linux Black screen for the user session

Sorry for the delay,
Whether 3D is enabled or disabled, there's no black screen after entering the password. Issue is solved.
The only difference between the two states is the exit from standby mode. Let me explain. If I put the screen to sleep, or if after the set period the screen goes to sleep, if 3D is enabled, there's no problem getting out of the sleep state, but if 3D is not enabled, it's impossible to get out of the sleep state.
