Something weird has happened with my Arch desktop but I have no idea how it happened. After messing up my KDE taskbar, I deleted and re-added the system tray. But now the network manager applet (nm-applet) no longer appears in the system tray. In fact, the nm-applet appears to be deleted from my system! This alone was a concern, how could it be there one moment and gone the next? So I reinstalled the network-manager-applet package. Then manually started nm-applet and it appears again in my tray.
But now I can't get it to start automatically in the system tray when I log in. Any ideas why it is not doing this automatically? And why this just might have mysteriously disappeared in the fist place? I don't remember having to do anything special when I set it up first time, it just worked.
Thanks.

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x8 … er-applet/ ships /etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop
If you've not masked that and https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE#Autostart wasn't broken (for at least the XDG autostart), is there any indication that the process is actually autostarted but then fails/crashes?

With KDE, you'd typically be using plasma-nm, not nm-applet.

Ah yes, you're correct. plasma-nm was the one I was wanting. Strangely, that package was also uninstalled. Installing it fixed it.

Because you removed it? Check your pacman log.

Sorry for the late reply. I checked the logs and the only entries for the plasma-nm and network-manager-applet packages were when I added them just recently. It's like they've never been installed. But there was definitely an applet in the tray previously. Maybe I was using something else, but I have no idea what. I cannot remember how I originally set it up.
Thanks for your help.
