xrdp with xorgxrdp and hardware acceleration

Hey all!

I have a new system that I've installed arch on and I'll be remoting into it from time to time, so I've installed xrdp and xorgxrdp (I like xrdp because it's fast and I can just use the native windows client when I need). This is working well, but obviously just being the main xorgxrdp, I am using a software renderer. I would love to get hw acceleration working for this setup. The machine is dual GPU with both an intel and nvidia GPU. I've tried both xorgxrdp-nvidia and xorgxrdp-glamor and I believe I have essentially the same issue: the fact that the x server gets started without root permissions causes something to fail on startup; here is what I get with glamor:

and here is what I get with nvidia:

I have tried to setup my x server to run as root but setting the UID bit on /usr/lib/Xorg and creating and creating a Xwrapper.config with:

allowed_users = anybody
needs_root_rights = yes

This alone, didn't work - I could still see the x server started by xrdp starting as my user rather than root; then I discovered the XorgNoNewPrivileges xrdp setting which I changed to false; at this point I could see the x server starting as root, but it would exit and xrdp would fail to start an actual session.

Is there a guide on getting either of these working, as the wiki doesn't cover the specifics around this and it doesn't seem to work out of the box. Any help appreciated.

I could see the x server starting as root, but it would exit and xrdp would fail to start an actual session

So there's either gonna be an error in the xorg log or whatever you configured as session (how) failed, so elaborate on that.

If I chmod u-s /usr/lib/Xorg again, the xserver will start, but it doesn't run as root.
