Y server fails to start

I just installed yiff and yconsole.

After running starty, it gives me this error:
Waiting for Y server services (30 seconds)...Failed to start the YIFF Sound Server.

[weeniewhite@myhost ~]$ sudo make bagel
make: *** No rule to make target `bagel'.  Stop.

Re: Y server fails to start

Sorry I can't help you with your problem. I have a question though, is the y server and windowing system still under development? I heard about this a while ago but thought the guy who started it stop developing after he graduated. Can you clarify this? Thanks.

Re: Y server fails to start

Uh.. I really don't know. I learned that Y server exists yesterday.

But since it's open source, some other people could make it return to live(if it is really dead).

Re: Y server fails to start

Most recent release was on 26 Sept 2005. A lot has changed since then.

I have to say I'm curious why you want to use this, particularly if you only found it yesterday. Is there something you want to do with sound that cannot be achieved with more up-to-date applications?

Re: Y server fails to start

In fact, on the site where i found YIFF, it says that it installs Y server. I don't really need YIFF, I just want to try Y. I read in some places that it's an alternative to X. Maybe they just mislead people and tell them that Y server makes the same job as X server.

OK. I didn't get that impression, but I only skimmed over the YIFF website.

There's a Contacts link there, might be worth a try.
