Prevent kernel failback creation and/or increase compression

Hi to all,
I'd like to keep more kernels (zen and hardened added to already present arch and lts ones) on my 500MB boot partition.
The greatest part of it is occupied by fallback images that are very big.
They are created because the preset files in /etc/mkinitcpio.d that comes with kernel packages create by default the fallback images to.
I could modify the preset by removing the fallback, but I'm not sure if they will be overwritten when I update or reinstall the package. Will the modified presets be overwritten?
Moreover I could keep the fallback if there is any way to compress only that and not the regular kernel that I'm going to use every day.  I've found how to compress all images, but no clear indication of how to do that for only the fallback ones. Is it possible?
