KILE for LaTeX complains that LaTeX is incorrectly configured.

Hi!
I installed kile using pacman. However, after installing and running the First Start wizard, Kile complains that the LaTeX binary exists, but cannot be used. The error is, verbatim,

Latex: Critical Failure
Binary -> Found (latex => /usr/bin/latex)
Simple Test: This essential tool does not work; please check your installation.

Also PDFTex failed, but Kile says it is not critical.

I would like to know what I must do in order to use Kile with Latex. I do not want to install the entire 2GB LaTeX group, which would strain my computer's storage. There seems to also not be any relevant optional packages according to https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/kile/. Using Flatpak is also not an option due to storage limitations.

What happens if you try to compile some file manually with latex?

2GB really strain your storage? You probably have to run latex then manually and install the required packages on demand.

Can you run latex manually?
