I updated my Arch install today, then realized that Dolphin file previews are not working the same as they did before. Before the upgrade, Dolphin would show all the previews of all files in my mounted directories, the same as any other file on my PC. After the upgrade, previews for files in my mounted directories are no longer showing.
In Dolphin settings > previews, the "skip previews for remote files above" was set to 25 MiB (which is what it had always been). By increasing this value I can get the previews of mounted files again. This suggests the mounted files are suddenly being treated as "remote" files, even though they were not before.
This wouldn't be a big deal, but the problem is when I go into a mounted directory with a lot of files, my system hangs for up to 20 seconds after loading all the previews. Then, when I go to any other directory and go back, it has to reload all of the previews again... Before the upgrade, all the previews would remain even after closing Dolphin.
What's more, Dolphin is now sometimes hanging my whole system for a few seconds randomly.
Interestingly, I tried downgrading Dolphin back to the previous version, but the problem persists. Any ideas?

"bump"
problem still exists it seems.
I can not get dolphin to show previews of simple jpegs.. it does show for some but then it just cuts off after or before a certain amount.
I tried adjusting the MiB limits as OP said but no dice.
reinstalling kio-extras doesnt fix it either

I noticed that a recent Dolphin update changed some of my settings, including to show file previews.
Have you checked if it simply hasn't been disabled? For me the shortcut is F12, otherwise check CTRL+M to show the menu and see View->Show Previews.
