VMware problems with kernel26-ck

I installed vmware-server 1.0.1_29996-3 and the modules for the 2.6.19-ck kernel, configured it and receive an error when I start vmware:

[sigi@arch ~]$ vmware
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::length_error'
what(): basic_string::_S_create
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)
vmware: xcb_lock.c:62: _XGetXCBBuffer: Assertion `((int) ((xcb_req) - (dpy->request)) >= 0)' failed.

Loading of the module seem to work...
Any ideas?

Cheers Sigi

Re: VMware problems with kernel26-ck

I'm able to run vmware as root, so I assume it's a permissions "thing". vmware-workstation needs a vmware group to start, isn't this the case with vmware-server too?

Re: VMware problems with kernel26-ck

I don't know what causes this problem. I have tested VMware Server with the standard and the beyond kernel and it works as standard user. No vmware group is needed. Have you tried another kernel?

After a little bit googling I have found this forum thread:
http://www.vmware.com/community/thread. … adID=56646

I don't know if it helps.

Re: VMware problems with kernel26-ck

I use VMware Workstation with the ck kernel with no issues (2+ months). I know that's not the same thing as vmware-server but maybe it helps.

and there's a detailed article in the wiki here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_VMware
