Sudden increases/decreases in volume playing audio via USB DAC

I recently switched my laptop to Arch and have been encountering some perplexing audio issues. I listen to music on a set of speakers connected to my laptop by an Apple USBC to 3.5mm DAC. Are there any troubleshooting steps I could take to try and shed further light on this? Thanks in advance
