Now that PREEMPT_RT is merged into the main kernel, and both the linux-rt and linux-rt-lts packages appear to be dead, how do we enable realtime capabilities with the main linux kernel? Is it a bootloader config? If so, where can we find information about how to enable this option?

It has to be done at build time, so you would need to rebuild the kernel package.

Ah, that's less than ideal. Hopefully the linux-rt package maintainers will update soon for those of us who can't spend a whole day compiling a new kernel just so their guitar inputs don't lag.

Unfortunately,
CONFIG_PREEMPT_LAZY=y
Which is no good.

6.14.9 kernel took 3m 52s to compile here this morn.
My tea wasn't even finished steeping.

linux-rt is now at 6.14 so there should not be a need to build it yourself.
Closing this old thread.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
