[SOLVED] Microphone listed but not working

I recently reinstalled archlinux on my XPS 9320 (the microphone was working before) and now the microphone isn't recording anything anymore.

I can see it in pavucontrol just like I coulf before, and the speakers work just fine.

Disabling and re-enabling it in the bios does not change anything.

Other microphones, like the ones from my wireless earbuds, work.

Also, the microphone mute light on the function bar is always on (it worked and synced correctly on the old installation, but also sometimes got stick there)

I am using pipewire and have installed linux-firmware and sof-firmware

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone listed but not working

The same is happening on my XPS +  a USB microphone.

USB Microphone is detected. The bar in pavucontrol is moving when I speak in the USB microphone, but the sound is not properly routed to the browser app.

Wireless headphones microphone works.

Everything worked before the kernel 6.14.9-arch1-1 update.

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone listed but not working

Not the same issue at all.  I don't even see the bar moving in pavucontrol

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone listed but not working

If the bar is not moving there, are you routing your inputs properly? During an attempt at recording (which tool are you using to test this?) what output does

arecord -l
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
pactl list sources
pactl list source-outputs

give you?

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone listed but not working

Recording with discord or the bar in pavucontrol gives nothing. I just see a miniscule dot randomly moving in pavucontrol. even a whatsapp audio message is just silent

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone listed but not working

Just fixed with

# alsactl init && alsactl store

Thanks for helping in another post and sorry for this timewaste smile)

Btw apparently I need to have alsa-utils installed for the mic light to sync correctly - the mic works even without now, but the light just stays on permanently if I uninstall it, weird
