Small problem with VLC media player.

Hi, i'm new to linux and i'm have a small but annoying problem everytime I run VLC Media Player.  As soon as the player starts it comes up with the error  [ cannot set locale to ". ] . How might I fix it from saying that everytime it starts? and also, I can't get it to play any WMV files, is there a codec I need to download? Thanks!

Did you setup your locales? http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Locale

Re: Small problem with VLC media player.

same problem here... whenever i start a .wmv i get

[00000283] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `DX50'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

so he wouldn't find the codec?! but with mplayer there is no problem at all with .wmv!

ps: all other players aren't able to play .wmv either... just the mplayer works...

EDIT: got it now! have a look to the multimedia forum, there are some actual threads about the vlc player that helped me!

I had the same problem. Follow the wiki article step by step. Setting it in rc.conf is not enough, you also have to generate your locales.
