Beryl Unpredictable

Why is Beryl so unpredictable? Sometimes when I load it up it works great, other times, the window decos are missing and I cant get them back?

Anyone else seeing this?

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

Yes.

had that couple of versions ago, now it works fast and just great. (fastest in xfce4.4)

try to do a clean installation, ie remove all previous configs etc and install the latest beryl.

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

Thanks for the reply!!!

I just installed it this morning, so I imagine that pacman would have let me know that there was an update needed...

What config files are you refering too. I deleted the .beryl files in my home dir. Are those the ones?

Here is a snipit when I try to run it from the command line...

No window manager. Waiting...
New Window Manager
true
kwin: Fatal IO error: client killed
kwin: Fatal IO error: client killed
XGL Present
libberylsettings: Couldn't get vtable from '/usr/lib/beryl/libcapture.so' plugin
New Window Manager
beryl-xgl: dbus_bus_get error: Unable to determine the address of the message bus (try 'man dbus-launch' and 'man dbus-daemon' for help)
beryl-xgl: Plugin 'dbus':initDisplay failed
beryl-xgl: Couldn't activate plugin 'dbus'
Couldn't initialise dbus. This should not happen!
Initiating splash

Thanksf or the help!!!

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

yup, i ment those .beryl files.

You could try putting dbus in daemons see if it makes a difference.

Other than that I'm out of ideas, i had that problem with some versions and not with others. Maybe some of the themes are broken?

try beryl-project forums smile

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

What I ended up doing was reinstalling beryl and all the themes and such and now I am using the beryl themes which seem to work great.

When I switch to kwin themes, it craps out, so I will just use beryl themes smile They look better anyway.

Thanks!!!

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

With aquamarine, I always have to reload the window decorator after I started beryl. Seems like a bug.

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

I'm having same problem using beryl-xgl. If I load up beryl-manager the themes appear and I have window decorations.

Should I be running beryl-manager aswell as beryl-xgl?

If I use beryl-manager it seems superfluous to run xgl-git as it works without it but then beryl-xgl won't work.

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

If you have an nvidia card as your signature says then you don't even need XGL.

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

So I can just run beryl-manager on the normal xserver?

Of course you can. If you had read the wiki, you would know that (I sometimes wonder why I write that documentation).

Re: Beryl Unpredictable

I did read the wiki thank you very much. It say's to put "beryl-xgl" in your gnome startup sessions but that only works if you have Xgl running. That's why I asked the question.

If it makes you feel better, I use it big_smile
