Having a weird issue with Arch Linux KDE Plasma using X11. After closing my laptop lid and reopening it, the desktop and any open windows or documents are displayed for anyone to see. After a couple seconds the login screen takes over and hides everything asking for a password.
Is this issue particular to me or is this a known bug? I can't imagine this would be a feature!

screen lockers kicking in too late on sleep interception is a somewhat known issue, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_ … temd_units (see the blue note at the bottom)
powerdevil should™ intercept the lid event and handle the entire process - but from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=306205 it sees prone to crash and then logind just handles the event and the kde screenlocker hook (if there's an extra one) would lack such strategic stall?
Any indications of that in your journal?

It looks like kscreenlocker_greet loads just as suspend begins, but I don’t see evidence the screen lock triggered before suspend entry (deep). Powerdevil is not active as a systemd unit; not sure if that’s expected?
Please let me know if I am not adhering to the best practices of the forums, and if I should trim my logs in the furture. I am very new to the forum and VERY new to Linux. Please let me know if it is better to pastebin larger logs like this or if my format is considered okay.

Don't copy and paste out of a pager, it makes the result unreadable because of the wrapping
Interestingly powerdevil says "lock after waking from sleep"… but

Graphical glitch?
Is this on wayland or X11? Does it matter?
On X11, if you suspend the compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12 - the shadows will drop out), do you still get the same behavior?

While the desktop is visible, does it also respond to mouse input (hover events etc)?
If you play a video while suspending, does the video during the concerned time update or do you see the last frame frozen?
Edit: LOL

When waking back up and incorrectly showing the desktop or open windows/documents, there is no response to mouse or keyboard inputs. It actually phreaks me into thinking there is a kernel crash and then I get a jump scare when I'm holding down the button to force a shut down.
Reading through that forum thread was difficult, but what I gathered from it was something like 'use wayland you pleb' and i was marked as fixed? Wayland was too unreliable for my environment and my hardware is somewhat dated. Not that setting up for X11 was a breeze, I actually encountered less driver bugs using Ubuntu 25.04 but the amount of issues I had other then drivers was what drove me towards Arch (that and wanting to be one of the cool guys) and I'm not looking back. There has to be a real fix, and I'm very suspicious of my hardware/drivers being the root cause.
The machine is a Dell Latitude 5420 Rugged:

Reading through that forum thread was difficult
and futile. Sorry, I should probably have been more blunt:
This is all a bunch of nonsense but they obviously struggle with this for almost a decade, including on wayland.
It's perfectly possible and not very complicated to know whether a window has mapped and risen on the z-stack in X11 - xev can tell you in real time.
Trying hard to avoid ad hominems here, but I came to pretty much dismiss whatever N.G. says prima face since I've yet to read a post where I'm not left with the impression that "you've absolutely no idea what people are talking about and just post deflective gibber to kick the can down the road"
Back on topic: you might be looking at a frozen framebuffer. Possibly related to/amplified by https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=296954
Did you test the behavior of actively playing videos?
Is this a hybrid graphics system? Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
You could opt to disable the feature in plasma, add a systemd sleep hook as linked in #2, manually trigger the screenlocker there and then add a strategic sleep as you like.
(W/o sleep you'd have to eg. "xdotool search --sync" for the locker window, but that's probably already overkill)
Also, sanity check:
If you manually lock the screen, how long does it take from you pressing ctrl+alt+l or whatever the kde shortcut is and the screenlocker actually showing up?
qdbus org.kde.plasmashell /ScreenSaver lockmight also be able to trigger the locker (and then be used in the sleep hook)
Offline
Don't know if its related, but do: cat /sys/power/mem_sleep.
Does it say [Deep] or S3?
You can go to your bios/uefi, and see if sleep state is selected to something like Windows or S2. Change it to Linux or S3 or Deep.
Edit: when its in sleep mode, do the fans still run, or do they stop?
