[SOLVED] Keyboard status applet

Hello,

I have XFCE4 and also xfce4-kbdleds-plugin, the led package will not build now and no reply on the AUR page as yet.

I do not have the actual package and have a new machine I am setting up, so, is there something else which sits on the panel/in the tray to show if the caps, number and scroll locks are on?

autogen several times wrote:

configure.ac:100: You should run autoupdate.

Did you try?

Edit: debian maintains the sources, the release tarball there will have autogen done already - maybe you can leverage that into a PKGBUILD

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard status applet

Yes I tried it and I got further errors about needing autoupdate

I did post on the AUR page.
I don't know what autoupdate is so I just stopped there.

Edit: I found this page https://github.com/oco2000/xfce4-kbdleds-plugin

but the package  libxfce4panel-2.0-dev is not found in the AUR and at that point I thought maybe there was an alternative. :-)

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard status applet

If you don't know what autoupdate is, how did you try it?
"man autoupdate" - the suggestion would be to run that in the $srcdir, then "makepkg -e" to not overwrite the result

So the autoiupdate in the src dir resulted in

      See the Autoconf documentation.

You'll probably have to fix up the autoconf ac's for real - did you have a look at the debian maintained sources?

The actual build has succeeded but you managed to turn USE_NLS into an extra build target…

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard status applet

I have spent a long time working on trying to fix this and without success, I cannot complete the build.

I have found an old package (xfce4-kbdleds-plugin-0.2.5-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst) which installed and works from a backup, it is not the latest one but solves my immediate problem.

Thank you @seth for your help but this is beyond me at the moment, I may try again later. I am keeping the source file and the source RPM for later :-)

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard status applet

I changed this and ran

makepkg -e

autoreconf: error: libtoolize failed with exit status: 1
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().

So then went back a stage and

./autogen.sh

autoreconf: error: libtoolize failed with exit status: 1

I did try autoupdate and autoconf and then tried again but the outcome was the same.

I have had the same problem with xfce4-docklike-plugin but this was fixed by downloading the package build again. It changed from

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard status applet

libtoolize: error: AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIRS([m4]) conflicts with ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS=-I /usr/share/gettext/m4.

Just noticed that I didn't actually link you https://packages.debian.org/source/sid/ … tor-plugin
Using https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/good … er.tar.bz2 as source (and skipping the hashes) and then also skipping the autogen call in the PKGBUILD should™ work?

Re: [SOLVED] Keyboard status applet

I got a package built and installed, it needed libayatana-indicator installed to complete, however it failed to start and was removed from the panel and then I could not add it back. Using the old backup worked so it is close.

Thank you, I will keep at it

Edit I am not sure xfce4-indicator-plugin is the same package.

No, you're right - I fell for a google result.

The bug is in /usr/bin/adt-autogen (from xfce4-dev-tools)
At the top you'll find

m4macrodir="${datarootdir}/aclocal"

Make that

m4macrodir="/usr/share/gettext/m4"

I can basically no longer type straight roll
But the forecast promises the temperatures to drop by 10° over night.

Edit: you probably want to file a bug upstream, this isn't a problem w/ some obscure 3rd party widget

We have been at 35°C all day, now at 25°C, and that is as low as it goes tonight. I hope you get some relief where you are :-)
