KDE Plasma 6.4 Wayland - Unable to region screenshot with Spectacle

KDE Plasma 6.4, Wayland, using stock kernel and a 6700XT AMD GPU.

I've not been able to region screenshot since upgrading to 6.4. All other screenshots with Spectacle work fine (all monitors, individual monitors, windows). I'm not sure where to begin with this as I can't seem to get much output from Spectacle. I don't get an error message or anything. If run from a terminal, (spectacle -r)  the process seems to just hang.

I've found the following threads covering similar screenshot problems which haven't fixed the issue for me:

1. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=306394

The folder mentioned does not exist so I cannot remove it. Running

systemctl restart --user xdg-permission-store

doesn't do anything for me.

2. https://discuss.kde.org/t/spectacle-not … hots/35871

This covers a similarly inconsistent issue where they're able to record but not screenshot. The solution found was to create a new user, login to it, and then return to your existing user.
The new user I created was able to region screenshot without issue.
My current user still is not able to do so.
I'm not sure how, it feels like I'm missing some configuration or setup that was done for the new user that hasn't been done for my existing user if it was newly required in 6.4

Have also tried:
Reinstalling Spectacle
Rebooting

Thanks!

Edit:

So it does work? I have a TV plugged in that I usually disable in the display configuration unless I'm using it.
If I enable the TV, It works again without issue.
This is strange...

Re: KDE Plasma 6.4 Wayland - Unable to region screenshot with Spectacle

I think I have the same issue.
Warning: I am not skilled enough to know what the issue is, so I'm only guessing and describing what I see and experience.

For me, it seems like the mouse and/or window position is offset in the wayland-session. It works fine in KDE, but the pager shows a maxed out window as a small strip on the right side in the pager app. If I open games on Steam, my cursor is stuck on the same right side that the KDE pager applet sees the window. I didn't have this problem prior to this KDE Plasma/Wayland update.
Screenshot of my Wayland-session issue

My temporary fix has been to install plasma-x11-session and kwin-x11 and start running KDE in a X11-session instead of Wayland. I have the same problem you describe when using Spectacle in a Wayland-session, but it works normal in a plasma-x11-session.

As mentioned earlier, I have no idea where the issue lies. Could be as simple as a config-file, but the mouse pointer/window is for some applications not working correctly in the Wayland-session.

Re: KDE Plasma 6.4 Wayland - Unable to region screenshot with Spectacle

Messing with what I have enabled/disabled seems to fix it. I had a bug before 6.4 where my TV wouldn't enable unless it was set to being the primary display. There's something weird going on with it pushing a display configuration out maybe? I''m too complacent with it working if I poke at it enough to look into it deeply for a few hours.

Re: KDE Plasma 6.4 Wayland - Unable to region screenshot with Spectacle

Thank you for the suggestion.
I just logged into a plasma-wayland session and toggled the display configurations on/off between laptop and external monitor.
Now it is normal again smile

Strange behavior, but very happy it was a really easy fix.
